If there is one thing I live for in fashion, it's juxtaposition, and this look is full of it! I love mixing super girly items with things with a little bit of an edge. What better way to dress up a pair of ravaged, ass skimming daisy dukes than with a vintage cashmere sweater, sweet white peplum, floral gold earrings and then a feminine braided updo?! Honestly, sky blue is one of my favorite colors right now. I don't know if it's after years of Stassi Schroeder worship or what, but I can't get enough of it. It makes me feel so feminine and springy, and also may be the one color I consistently wear that isn't a neutral. This look took me from dinner with girlfriends to drinks with my boyfriend no problem, and the conservative vibe of the sweater mixed with grungy denim shorts made it wearable for different restaurants. Next time you want to wear two things with totally different feels to them, give it a try! You may be pleasantly surprised.
A female wronged me shortly before this photo was taken, and I was on a rampage. Therefore, I decided to channel the cult favorite "The Craft" as fashion inspo for dinner with a gal pal. All black, a dark lip, and a choker are the key ingredients to recreating this look. It's fun to vamp it up every now and then, and there's more dignity in getting too wine drunk and crying later in the night if you have a great outfit on.
I'm truly one of those people that believes if you feel great on the outside, everything else is a little easier. Maybe it's a control thing, but I really feel enabled to handle the events of my day when I'm rocking a great outfit or even just the perfect lip color. Headed to a shopping trip with myself was no exception. Besides, haven't you seen Pretty Woman?! People treat you with more respect when you don't look homeless (unless you're a famous person). ANYWAY. I started with a basic gray crop top, and a snug white skirt. I love the half-sheer overlay on this skirt, which brings the hem down to the knee when it's actually a white mini. To make the look more casual I threw on a denim buttondown and styled my hair in loose, tousled waves. Basic pieces like my black boots and black purse pulled the look together, without getting too fussy. I played the track "wild women do" from the shopping montage in Pretty Woman on my phone, and with that I was ready to do some serious retail therapy!
This look was to take me to one of my favorite activities: brunch. To be honest, I wasn't feeling the most in shape that day, and when that happens, throwing a dress on is what's easiest. Nothing digs in, and with a cozy sweater layered on top, none of my problem areas were showing. I also didn't feel like wearing a bra that day, so once again a cozy sweater came in handy. (What can I say. I'm a feminist for the ages.) Black tights lengthened and slimmed my legs, but also protected me from a nippy Chicago day. Finally, to dress up the look a bit, I accessorized with a black leather purse (I love the silver detailing) and black knee-high boots with a chunky wearable heel. Voila! A cozy, chic brunch ensemble that ultimately enabled me to get too drunk on mimosas to remember any of the thought process behind it.
